How to tell ovulation dates.?

Trying for a baby. Since coming off the depo I have unregular periods. Well more like light brown spotting for 3-4 days. My cycle has been anywhere between 14 and 56 days each time. How can I tell when im ovulating. Using a testing kit would be a bit tricky because I can even guess a close date where I should start testing. Any ideas.
