Why cv axel is not staying inside tranny?

Front driver side of 92 honda hatch. I took out old axel, put in new. Drove 25 miles and axel pop out. Push it back in and notice doesn't lock in. Open up the lock ring. Still doesn't work. Is the problem in the tranny.
